Acting GroupAt the last Catholic homeschool meeting, I mentioned starting an Acting Group. I got a lot of positive response from Catholic Homeschoolers, and so I have found a place for us to meet to start working on a few drama projects for this school year. The Newman Center at WSU has agreed to allow us to use the basement area for practices this fall. We will meet from 2:00-3:30 on Wednesday afternoons, starting Wednesday, September 19. The first project we will work on will be to learn two short skits (about 10 minutes each) with the intention of performing them for a children's hospital and/or a school for handicapped children. The skits are fun and easy and very suitable for a young audience. There are parts in one of the skits that do not require speaking, only hand gestures; so even if you have a child who is interested, but a bit timid you can encourage them to come and try it out. We will work on this particular project for about 6-7 weeks before performing. The second project will start in November, with the hopes of working on a One-Act play about Our Lady of Guadalupe, to be performed in December for participating families. The third project will begin in the spring of 2008. We will work on a play about St. Bernadette, and hopefully we will be able to perform it some time in May for the Homeschool Group--as one of the ending activities for the year. If you have any children who would be interested in working on any of these acting projects, please e-mail me through the Yahoo Group Thank you! I think this will be a fun and enriching experience!
